AHP Announces Presale for Revised Edition of the Iconic WRAP “Red Book”

Human Potential Press, the publishing arm of Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP), today announced presales for the first substantial revision in two decades of the Wellness Action Recovery Plan (WRAP), or “Red Book.” Books will begin shipping June 11. As WRAP’s customer base of individuals, facilitators, trainers, and organizations continues to grow, so has a need for evolving materials. Although the key concepts, values, and framework of WRAP remain unchanged, the design and content have been extensively updated and enhanced to amplify the products’ relevance and appeal to a diverse, international audience.

Significant changes to Wellness Action Recovery Plan include two new chapters, a revised introduction, use of trauma-informed terminology, new appendices, more current and varied examples and thought prompts, and expanded crisis plan and wellness toolbox ideas. WRAP has also undergone a branding revival; while the book maintains its signature red as the primary color on the cover, the look and feel of the book is fresh and far more current. The WRAP community will also encounter the new identity throughout WRAP communications, including the online bookstore, website, email newsletter, and social media presence.

Additional updates to the WRAP catalog of dozens of books, recordings, and other products will be rolled out through 2018 and beyond. The next item for release is WRAP for Veterans and People in the Military, scheduled for later in June 2018.

“When AHP took on stewardship of WRAP, we brought a vision for continuing to develop and expand its practical applications for recovery and wellness,” said AHP President and CEO Neal Shifman. “We have responded to the community’s requests to update the WRAP books and materials and modernize the visual identity, all to better represent what WRAP offers to the world.”

AHP acquired the full line of WRAP and Recovery Books products in July 2016, including 30+ books, manuals, curricula, and other educational products on wellness and recovery, along with websites, a mobile app, and elearning curricula. The author of the original WRAP books, Mary Ellen Copeland, Ph.D., said, “In 2016, after doing this work for almost 30 years, I knew it was time to retire. My husband and I sold WRAP and Recovery Books to AHP, knowing they would preserve and expand WRAP's legacy. And they have. This new edition of the Red Book has been updated and enhanced in ways that reflect how WRAP continues to evolve.”

For the revisions, AHP engaged staff who are well-versed in WRAP and committed to its principles. Kristen King, AHP WRAP Project Manager and a Certified WRAP Facilitator, oversaw the team of writers and contributors who carefully revamped the product line. “When I discovered WRAP in 2009, it gave me my life back,” she said. “It’s been so exciting to work on these updates and breathe new life into a book and a program that have done so much for me.”

WRAP is used around the world as a powerful process anyone can use to get well, stay well, and make their life the way they want it to be. Originally developed in 1997 by a group of people who were working to overcome their own mental health challenges, WRAP is now used extensively by people in all kinds of circumstances and by healthcare and mental health systems all over the world to address a variety of physical, mental health, and life issues.

"For the past 20 years, I have been on a journey with the WRAP community,” said Dr. Copeland. “Even though I’ve retired, I will never retire from living WRAP, and I invite others to do the same.

"The revised edition of Wellness Recovery Action Plan is available for immediate presale at www.wrapandrecoverybooks.com. The new books will ship by June 11, 2018.
