Data Scientist

Dr. Brent Kaplan, PhD, serves as a data scientist at Advocates for Human Potential (AHP). He has contributed over 65 peer-reviewed journal articles to the fields of behavioral economics, behavioral science, substance use, policy implications, and statistics and methodological tools for experimental psychology. Dr. Kaplan has presented and authored more than 40 invited symposia and conference papers and has provided peer reviews for over 30 academic journals. His significant contributions have been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the American Psychological Association Division 25 B. F. Skinner Foundation New Researcher Award and the American Psychological Association Division 28 Outstanding Dissertation Award.

In addition to his publications, Dr. Kaplan has served as co-investigator on two NIH R01 grants. He is a strong supporter of advanced statistical techniques and has published influential papers on the use of hierarchical modeling for behavioral economic and experimental psychological participant data. Notably, he has developed the open-source R package “beezdemand: Behavioral Economic Easy Demand,” tailored for behavioral economic demand curve analyses. Dr. Kaplan’s contributions also include the creation of the 27-Item Monetary Choice Questionnaire Automated Excel Scorer, a freely available analysis tool for a popular temporal discounting task. Several of these projects and papers include accompanying code hosted on GitHub. Among others, his expertise includes R programming, experimental design, behavioral science methodology and concepts, substance use, and statistical modeling.

Dr. Kaplan holds a PhD in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Kansas.
