AHP Publishes New Research on PTSD in Cancer Survivors
AHP’s Innovation team continues to break new ground at the intersection of science, data, and real-world impact. In the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology, the team published the results of a study designed to understand the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on cancer survivors.
Study Summary:
As cancer treatments improve, so do survival rates, but what happens next is often overlooked. This study highlights the emotional and mental health needs of cancer survivors, particularly those facing more advanced cancer stages. Researchers found that PTSD symptoms were strongly associated with cancer severity, whereas depression and anxiety were not. Survivors with a history of adverse childhood experiences may be especially vulnerable.
The findings support the value of trauma-informed care throughout treatment—not just afterward—to reduce long-term unmet needs and improve quality of life during survivorship.
