AHP Releases New WRAP Materials for Healthy Aging for Older Adults and Launches New WRAP Website
The U.S. growth rate for the 65+ population is unparalleled, and in response, Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) has adapted its foundational products for adults ages 60 and older. AHP just released the new workbook and workshop materials, titled WRAP for Healthy Aging. WRAP is an evidence-based prevention and wellness process used throughout the world by individuals to attain and maintain wellness.
WRAP can be used by people of all ages, but basic needs, health and priorities often shift as people get older. As the founders of WRAP began to move into their older adult years, they found that although WRAP became even more useful with age, the trainings were not designed for older adults—particularly those in senior centers and senior living.
Healthy aging means we are often in a place of recovery from something (e.g., heart issues, declining strength, all of the physical changes that go with healthy aging and the many losses that go with it). Thus, the ways we define ‘recovery’ (which we now call ‘wellness’) change as our life circumstances change. To stay in a place of growth, we cannot hang on to the old perceptions of what it meant to be well. The definition of recovery—or wellness—has to change alongside our challenges
Jane Winterling, co-originator of WRAP
The new materials offer participants and certified WRAP Co-Facilitators benefits such as
- A shorter workshop of just 3 to 4 hours per day, over the course of 3 days,
- A workbook and a set of PowerPoint training slides specifically designed for Co-Facilitators leading WRAP for Healthy Aging workshops and
- Prompts and examples that are relevant to older adults who are in a different stage of life than those just starting out with their careers, families and life goals.
The new Healthy Aging materials are available in the WRAP bookstore.
AHP has also unveiled a completely redesigned WRAP website, with a new platform for participants to join a global online community, share ideas, participate in discussions and connect with others — including older adults — facing the same wellness challenges.
For older adults who may still be living in isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic or who lack meaningful connections, AHP is also offering a free download of the booklet Wellness Guide for Isolation During COVID-19: Being Connected, Staying Connected, and Choosing Connection. The guide provides practical guidance for overcoming feelings of isolation and loneliness through building connections with oneself and others. A Spanish-language version is available.
