AHP’s Michael Sofis Presents New Research at the Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction Conference

Michael Sofis, Ph.D., Senior Scientist for AHP’s Research and Evaluation department, was invited to speak at the annual Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction (CPA) Conference on March 17. His presentation, titled “Effects of Episodic Future Thinking on Delay Discounting, Cannabis Demand, and Cannabis Use,” focused on his research testing the effects of brief interventions on problematic cannabis use. This research was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The annual CPA conference is held by Division 50 (Addiction) of the American Psychological Association (APA) and is attended primarily by graduate students and faculty in clinical psychology academic programs.

Dr. Sofis is a behavioral psychologist who has authored 23 peer-reviewed, scientific publications. He completed a National Institute on Drug Abuse postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health at Dartmouth College, which focused on better understanding and effectively targeting maladaptive decision-making and cognitive biases associated with cannabis misuse. He has also published nine peer-reviewed, scientific publications related to cannabis use. His research on cannabis is focused on testing the impact of his personalized digital intervention on reductions in cannabis use and on identifying patterns of cannabis use that are safe and those that are harmful.
