California’s Mentored Internship Project Toolkit Launches
Toolkit Summary:
Developed in partnership with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), the Mentored Internship Program (MIP) Toolkit distills insights from a $100 million state investment that placed more than 5,600 paid interns across 166 organizations. It offers practical tools—including templates, planning guides, and mentorship strategies—to help organizations recruit, train, and retain behavioral health talent from high school through postgraduate levels.
The toolkit emphasizes equity, workforce inclusion, and cultural responsiveness—critical pillars for rebuilding a behavioral health system that reflects and supports the communities it serves.
The MIP Toolkit is already shaping workforce strategies across California and beyond, offering scalable models that can be adapted nationwide.
