Kevin Shafer, Ph.D., is the director of analysis and reporting at Advocates for Human Potential (AHP). Dr. Shafer has more than 13 years of experience conducting research in mental health, physical health, and family functioning. He has led evaluations on three Administration for Children and Families (ACF) funded projects which focused on building relationship skills in couples and teaching parenting skills to fathers and an evaluation of programs in the Office of Minority Health Research Coordination (OMHRC) for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). He has also acted as the quantitative lead on an evaluation of the National Institute on Aging’s (NIA) Research Career Development Awards program. Before joining AHP, Dr. Shafer was a quantitative research and evaluation manager for Ripple Effect, the lead evaluator for Healthy Relationships California, and was a faculty member for more than 13 years at both Brigham Young University and Arkansas State University. As a faculty member, Dr. Shafer taught courses on statistics, research methods, evaluation research, physical and mental health, public policy, and community organization at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He is skilled in quantitative research and analyses, program evaluation, study design, manuscript writing, project management, and public facing scholarship. Dr. Shafer holds a PhD in sociology from The Ohio State University.
