Michael Sofis, Ph.D., is a senior scientist at Advocates for Human Potential’s (AHP’s) Center for Research and Evaluation. Dr. Sofis leads public health–focused research projects designed to better understand and mitigate problematic cannabis use. He has led cannabis research studies commissioned by cannabis regulatory agencies in multiple U.S. states and is currently leading a pilot project testing the efficacy of a digital intervention for reducing problematic cannabis use. Dr. Sofis also provides research consulting related to recruitment and retention, methodology, and long-term strategy internally at AHP and externally to for-profit behavioral health organizations.

Currently, Dr. Sofis provides subject matter expertise to the Illinois Opioid Crisis Response Advisory Council, which was formed to help prevent and reduce opioid misuse and overdoses in Illinois. Dr. Sofis received his Ph.D. in behavioral psychology and his B.A. in applied behavioral science with a specialty in performance management from the University of Kansas.
